5-stars

This small business is going places. I had some car chassis parts powder coated, and not only were the finishes exceptional, I had the parts back THE NEXT DAY! The owner even gave me a tour of his facility before I left. The staff were professional and friendly.

PPC has earned a loyal customer right out of the gate. Well done.

    Powder Coating FAQs

    What is powder coating?

Powder coating is a dry finishing process that has become extremely popular since its introduction in North America over in the 1960s.

What kinds of materials can be powder coated?

Mild steel, galvanized and electroplated steel, aluminum, stainless steel, and most other steel alloys can be powder coated. Powder coating can also be applied to materials ranging from metal to wood to glass and plastics.

How does the powder-coating process work?

Powder coatings are based on polymer resins combined with curatives and other additives. These ingredients are melted and mixed together, cooled, and ground into a uniform powder similar to baking flour. This powder coating is then applied to a metal surface of a product using a spray gun, which applies an electrostatic charge to the powder particles; these are then attracted to the grounded product. After the powder coating is applied, the product is put into a curing oven where the coating chemically reacts to the heat, producing a very durable finish.

Can you powder coat any color?

The simple answer is, for the most part, yes! Powder coatings are available in a huge array of colors, including elegant blacks and whites, inviting browns, greys, silvers and bronzes, eye popping neons, warm earthy tones, soft pastels, candy colors and striking translucents. There are also special effects that can be applied from matte to high gloss, as well as metallics and textures (example: anti-skid).

    How durable is powder coating?

Powder coating protects the roughest, toughest machinery as well as household items you depend on daily. It provides a more durable finish than liquid paints can offer, while still providing an attractive finish. Powder-coated products are more resistant to issues that include impact, moisture, chemicals, ultraviolet light, and other extreme weather conditions. In turn, this reduces the risk of scratches, chipping, abrasions, corrosion, fading, and other wear issues.

What’s the difference between powder coating and spray paint?

The number one difference between powder coating and traditional liquid paint is that powder coating doesn’t need a solvent to keep the filler and binder parts in liquid form. Powder coating is also cured under heat and applied electrostatically. After it’s applied, the finish is considered tougher than conventional paint.
    Other differences include:

    • Powder coatings create a thicker coat than conventional painting without sagging or running.
    • When a conventional paint is used, there are appearance differences between horizontally coated and vertically coated services. Products and items that are given a powder coating have few differences in appearance even if they were coated differently.
    • Powder coating provides industries with a wide range of specialty effects that are impossible to recreate with other types of coating processes.
    • You can recycle powder coating overspray, which means you can make use of the entire coating without wasting the powder.
    • Powder coating production lines produce less hazardous waste compared to conventional painting production lines.
    • Unlike conventional painting, powder coatings emit near zero volatile organic compounds, or VOCs.
